Considered as one of the most emblematic UFC MMA Fighter, Lyoto Machida is possibly the real last Samurai.
Cradled by the Karate Shotokan teaching of his father, Sensei Yoshizo Machida, Lyoto made this Martial Art not only an art of fighting but also an art of living.
Perhaps driven by his dual origins – Japanese and Brazilian – Lyoto Machida has perfectly mastered the Mixed Martial Arts specificities.
At the beginning they said Karate could not work in MMA. Victories after victories, with of the most powerful TKO, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida has proven the opposite, dominating the Octagon™ and won the UFC Light Heavyweight Title by defeating Rashad Evans in 2009. He is the 1st UFC fighter to win a Title with a perfect record (16-0).
Lyoto Machida began his career in Mixed Martial Arts under the management of legendary pro wrestler and MMA pioneer Antonio Inoki in Japan. Machida made his UFC debut on the preliminary card of UFC 67 against Sam Hoger and won by unanimous decision. With his unique unorthodox fighting style, Lyoto secured his UFC title with victories against talented opponents such as Tito Ortiz, Rich Franklin, B.J. Penn, Stephan Bonnar or Thiago Silva.
Lyoto Machida currently fights out of the Machida Dojo in Belem, Brazil. He trains with such fighters as UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
